COMPARATIVE SENTENCES (karşılaştırma cümleleri)

   COMPARATIVES

  We use comparative forms of adjectives when we want to compare people,      animals, objects…etc.(İnsanları,hayvanları , nesneleri..vb. karşlaştırmak istediğimizde sıfatların”comparative” biçimlerini kullanırız.

 Ex:I’m taller than my brother(ben erkek kardeşimden daha uzunum)

     Ali is more hardworking than Ahmet.(Ali Ahmet’ten daha çalışkan)

Bir sıfatın karşılaştırma şeklini yaparken şu husulara dikkat etmeliyiz;

1)Sıfatları “comparative yaparken (telafuzlarının) hece sayılarına dikkat ederiz..

     *1 ve 2 heceli sıfatlar sonlarına _er takısı alarak,

           Örn: cold(soğuk)                colder(daha soğuk)

                    Small(küçük)             smaller(daha küçük)

                   Fat…………   fatter

                   Heavy………  heavier

     * 3 ve daha fazla heceli olan sıfatlar başalrına more takısı alarak “comparative olurlar

       Örn: comfortable(rahat)…….more comfortable(daha rahat)

               Hardworking(çalışkan)      more harworking(daha çalışakan)

2) Bir veya iki heceli olmasına rağmen eğer sıfat –ful,-ous,-ed, ing,-some ..ile bitiyorsa sonuna –er değil, başına more takısı alarak “comparative “olurlar

          Örn: useful(kullanışlı)………..more useful)daha kullanışlı)

                  Boring(sıkıcı)…………   more boring(daha sıkıcı)

3)Bir de bütün bu kurallara uymayan ezberlememiz gereken Comparative adjective ler vardır.(irregular adjectives)

           Örn: good(iyi)……………better(daha iyi)

                    Bad(kötü)…………..worse (daha kötü)

**IRREGULAR ADJECTIVES**

Example Sentences

1. Kayseri is cold but Erzurum is colder than Kayseri.
2. Jane is fat but Janet is fatter than Jannet.
3.  Martin is a succesful student but Elizabeth is more succesful than Martin
4.  Elephants are bigger than tigers.
5.  Istanbul is more crowded than  Ankara.
6. English is more enjoyable than Maths.

7. My father’s English is better than my mother’s English

NEGATIVE SENTENCES

1. I’m not older than my father.
2.  İzmir  isn’t larger than Konya.
3.  Rabbits aren’t faster than Cheetahs.
4. Busses aren’t more comfortable than trains.

QUESTIONS (soru yaparken her zaman olduğu gibi yardımcı fiil(burada ‘am, is, are’) başa geçer)

1. Is Sinan shorter than Semih?

Yes, he is.(shorter than Semih)

No, he isn’t . (shorter than semih)

2. Are your shoes smaller than her shoes?

Yes, they are. (smaller than her shoes)

No, they aren’t. (smaller than her shoes)
